Audi Reveals The New A3 Sportback

One of Audi’s best-selling models has just been redesigned for the fourth generation and it looks way more attractive than ever. They have played it safe and have gone for an evolution design instead of completely making it unrecognizable as an A3 Sportback. It will no longer come in a 3-door body style and that leaves the more practical 5-door on the line-up with the sedan to be revealed later this year.

The new design continues to the front of the car which looks aggressive with a larger front grille and more angular design cues on the headlights which now come with optional Matrix LED lights. The side looks way more masculine and has added body creases to sell that look. The rear design kind of reminds me of the Audi Q3 Sportback with slimmer LED lights. The new A3 is 3 cm longer and it is based on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform used on the Golf 8 also. The base model rides on 16-inch wheels and optional wheels range up to 19-inches in size.

Engine variants have been announced with two petrol engines and two diesel engines. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces just 150 hp (112 kW) and a 3-cylinder 1.0-litre turbopetrol engine has a peak power output of 110 hp (82 kW). For the diesel fans, the 2.0 litre TDI engine comes in two versions with one producing 116 hp (86 kW) and the other one producing 150 hp (112 kW). The engines are mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and an optional 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission. The entry-level Audi A3 comes in front-wheel drive and the Quattro Variants will follow later this year.

The interior has gotten a complete makeover and it is more modern than ever without that pop-up infotainment screen, but we are going to miss the swivel wheel we have come to love. Most of the interior parts mimic the angular exterior design with hexagonal air vents, a clean centre console and a sporty steering wheel.

The new A3 sedan now comes with the latest MMI infotainment system controlled on the 10.1-inches touchscreen with a separate small touchscreen for the climate control. The standard 10-25 inches Virtual Cockpit can be upgraded to a 12.3-inches size for more information to be displayed.  The 306 hp (228 kW) Audi S3 is yet to be revealed plus the hottest RS3 will come later this year with more than 400 hp.
