Cadillac CTS-V

The Americans are at it again with the creation of the newly updated Cadillac. It comes with the usual recipe which is a large V8 front engine and rear wheel drive. The Cadillac CTS-V has been made to keep the germans on hold while the CTS-V can outperform the German Rivals. 

To be honest most American car models that tend to challenge the German packs fail almost everytime. This may include precision and performance. The CTS-V can argue with that because it has been fitted with a 6.2 L Supercharged V8 from a Corvette C7 Z06, producing a whooping 640 hp which is way more power than the Mercedes benz E63 AMG S. 

The CTS-V can hit a top speed of 200 mph which means it can go to a point where a Lamborghini cannot go. This days    American cars are a force to be reckon with. In the olden days, a mere American saloon couldn’t compete with a BMW M5 which I have to say it is one of the best saloon cars on the market. 

Now the CTS-V has been added with advanced technological features like the magnetic ride control. To be honest this car looks very dangerous plus the noise is the thunder of a angry god.

This CTS-V is like one of those people who don’t care about how smart you are or how many technological equipment, it knows that it can destroy you real quick. The engine is mounted to a 8-speed automatic transmission. This helps the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. 

This is serious competition for the current E63 AMG S because if you were to compare the price tags, the Merc is more expensive than the CTS-V while the Merc top speed is limited to 155 mph and the CTS-V can go way faster than that.

The only advantage the Merc has is it will sell more because it is available in many regions while the CTS-V is only available for purchase in USA. 

Considering the fuel economy the CTS-V is not really friendly towards the owners pockets because it does just 17 L/100 km. So if were considering to buy the CTS-V, you need to think about your financial state because petrol may just be your first priority!

It comes with all the equipment any buyer might recquire like heated seats, a full infointainment touchscreen, a/c, bluetooth and many other features. The exterior is what keeps me excited everytime I take a look at this car. The body is tuned to a really aggresive look whilst the rear shows those big twin exhuasts which haul the best sounds any mere mortal might adore. Comes standard with sunroof, Daytime running lights and 19 inch sporty aluminium wheels. 

This car is not available in South Africa and I just wish it was. I guess South African will just have to stick to the Germans saloons. The CTS-V is tbe american muscle money can buy. I really like it.

GCR rating- 7/10… Very powerful and fast but not so economical!!


We have been long waiting for the next BMW M5 and BMW has officially released some photos of the M5 prototype which can been seen on the picture above as it is camouflaged. The prototype has been seen countless time on the nurburgring track doing some laps. There has been some information released on the trusted site called BMWblog about the next generation BMW M5. Even though the M5’s body has been camouflaged, you can see that this will look very, very beautiful just by the streamlined body structure. 

Because Mercedes Benz’s E63 S can hit 0-100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds using the newly updated 4MATIC four-wheel drive system, BMW has decided to give the M5 a four-wheel drive system. The new generation xDrive has been made specially for the M5. This allows the M5 to accelarate from 0-100  km/h in just 3.5 seconds (claimed by BMW). 

Because the E63 S has Drift mode to allow it to drift, the M5 has a system which allows the driver to simply push a button and turn it to a rear-wheel drive power machine at will. This is the recipe for BMW and BMW did not want to lose it with the M5. It’s simply switching between rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive at will.
The BMW M5 is powered by the 4.4 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine from the F10 model but this has been tweaked to produce an unbelievable 607 bhp and 516 Ib ft of torque. Obviously all top speeds of BMW M models have been limited to 155 mph, so is the M5’s top speed. 

Since the first BMW M5, the E28, was released in the year 1985 it has been widely respected as one of the fastest four door saloon cars. This went on with the E34, E39, E60 and the F10 M5’s. I dearly do love the BMW M5.

Concerning what a buyer will get if he/she bought an M5 is a lot of equipment. But BMW has not announced official equipments that one might get. I’m guessing that the buyer will get satellite navigation and online services. This will  be operated on BMW’s newly updated iDrive system. The M5 will also borrow some kit from the BMW 7 series.

Come to think of it, will the BMW M5 still have the M-DCT transmission? The answer is No! There will be an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. This is much, much softer.

It will officially make it’s international debut at the next motor show which is coming next month. For now a BMW fan can just look at this spy photos. Or, you can still see a bit of glance of the M5 on pictures released on the Need For Speed game which is coming on the 10th of November.

The next M5 should have that boldness to it and give the E63 S a kick on it’s buttocks. I just can’t wait to see how it looks like and how it will go against it’s competitors!

Aston Martin Valkyrie

It is now time for the automotive industry to change it’s usual ways of just creating cars that can do 200 mph but focus on what Aston Martin is about to bring to this world. A collaboration between Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing has caused the creation of a car like no other. The car in-question is the Valkyrie. The reason why I say this will change everything is that this car weighs just 1,030 kg but also produces 1,130 hp. This means that the Valkyrie has surpasses a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.

The Aston Martin has some really ridiculous figures and the collaborations don’t end there. Red Bull Racing is involved in the research on how to make the car lightweight whilst a 6.2 L naturally-aspirated V12 is supplied by Cosworth and Rimac is supplying a KERS system used by Formula One teams to increase their cars performances. 

Bosch is also there to supply ECU unit, traction control system and ESP. Even the company, Alcon and and Surface Transforms, is supplying the brakes and calipers. This doesn’t end here with the collabos, Multimac is on it with supplying a MonoCell for the Valkyrie. Michelin is supplying tyres for the Valkyrie. The wheels are manufactured with lightweight magnesium material. The front and rear lights will be made by Wipac.

This is not only Aston Martin’s greatest creation but it will be automotives game changer. To create a great car that will break many records, this will need a lot of hard work.

Just to break down the details in short:

  • Engine: 6.2 L naturally-aspirated V12
  •  1,130 hp (843 kW)
  • Weight: 1,030 kg
  • power-to-weight ratio of 1,097 per ton
  • 7-speed paddle shift transmission
  • Everything is made out of carbon fibre
  • It has a KERS system installed along with the engine

The interior has no gauge cluster but there is a set of screens showing drivers information. The side mirror are side cameras with screens.  There is one screen that seats on the centre of the cockpit. There are bucket seats which come with two seat bealts each.

The problem is the Aston Martin will be exclusive to just a production number of 150. And there is another problem which is very obvious which is the price of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The Valkyrie will cost a large amount of money which is $3.2 million US dollars. Phew… that is a lot of money but it should be that much because the precision and dedication put to this car comes at a very high price.

The Valkyrie is surely a very interesting car. I will release further information when the automotive site of Aston Martin has released anything about the Valkyrie.

GCR rating- 10/10… This is a car that will defy the laws of physics, very interesting!!

GCR Nominee #8: Volkswagen Polo

The Best selling car globally is at it yet again. The Polo has been the first choice car for a person who has just started to work or has started to go to university. The Polo is a car that took people long miles and it never gave the owner problems. 

The fifth generation Polo Mk5 was awarded European car of the year in 2010, it was also awarded other various awards like World car of the year at the New york International Auto Show in 2010. Now Volkswagen has released another version of the Polo called the Polo Mk6. This will surely share it’s genes with the facelifted Golf. This car has been redesigned inside and outside.

It is an all-new polo with all-new standard and optional features. There are also new engines that have been announced by Volkswagen. A new engine which is a 1.5 TSI “EVO” with a power output of 148 hp. The engine that got my attention is the newly introduced natural gas powered 1.0 TGI producing 89 hp. 

I am really curious on how that engine works. Obviously there will be a GTi model and that comes with a usual 2.0 TSI engine but this one has been upgraded to produce more horses.

 The new Polo comes with updated headlights and rear lights. The interior has been tweaked and redesigned and now features an optional Active Info Digital Display Cockpit which basically has the ability to show the navigation and gives you driver information in a very cool way. This will allow the driver to be able to know everything that’s happening to the car while driving without being distracted.

The car will come with 14 customizable colours and now you can also customize the interior with 17 different dashboard colours. This will be very appealing to the youth as they can create their own colourful car that will suit their style and character.

Now that car manufacturers have new advanced features that they put in their car models, VW has caught up to that and now offer standard technological features in their baby polo. 

Those features are front collision detection, blindspot assist and emergency stopping. The boot space is much, much larger than it’s predecessor with a boot increase of 25%.

Volkswagen has also announced a sedan will be available. The new polo is the next step to a great redesign of funky cars that come very appealing to the eyes of any buyer who wishes to live life in a very exciting way. If I was a person looking for a new car, I would not look any further but instantly choose to buy the Polo.

Bugatti Chiron

The ultimate car that broke the world record of being the fastest production car for the longest was the Veyron. Now Bugatti with it’s anticipated, most valuable car is continuing the legacy. The Chiron is the most extraordinary car ever. It comes with the same 8 litre W16 quad-turbocharged engine from the Veyron but this engine has been tuned and tweaked to give out the best performance. It now produces an unbelievable 1 479 hp. 

Now if you think about it, comparing the chiron to an everyday city car like a Kia Picanto with power, you will need at least 22 Kia Picanto’s to equal one Bugatti chiron. That is some insane fact and the Bugatti doesn’t stop there with some of the outrageous facts. 

Here is some of the performance figures:

  • 1 479 hp (1 103kW)
  • producing 1 600 Nm of torque
  • 0-100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h in just 6.5 seconds
  • 0-300 km/h in just 13.6 seconds
  • Top speed is “electronically limited” to 420 km/h

Just by looking at this this figures I wonder where in this world would a person drive this car to it’s full potential. The power is managed on a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. 

Now this comes to the tires. This meant that Bugatti had to find a solution on how to create the most durable tires that won’t be ruined by the savage W16 engine. So VW group, which has many connections and it’s Bugatti’s owners , decided to call in the specialists from Michelin, a german tire manufacturer, to develop tires for the Chiron. It took time as the tires were developed using a jet engine. How, I don’t know but it worked. 

To clarify that, a man dies at a force of 9 G’s. When the Bugatti Chiron is at it’s top speed, each gram of one tire produces a force of 3,800 times the force of gravity. This means the Bugatti Chiron can stick down on the ground at an unbelievable force. It might also be able to drive upside down. Another mind blowing fact is that the Chiron can empty it’s tank in just nine minutes if it is at top speed. Not an ideal car to consider on fuel economy. 

Now on to the exterior, it has those daytime running lights that are in a four cubed ring design. On the side you can see the C shaped side air intakes which symbolise the Chiron name. In the back is the straight lined tailgate lights from one side to the other. And obviously the rear adjustable spoiler which comes out at high speeds.

The Veyron’s sophisticated four-wheel drive system caused it to not have the ability to drift. Bugatti has solved that and now you can slip and slide like a crazy maniac but be very careful with that much of power and torque. A lovely statement that Bugatti has given to the automotive industry. This has challenged other supercar manufacturers to push their models to the limit.

Now it’s a question that anyone should ask, ‘can I even afford a Bugatti Chiron?’. Well if you have a yatch, 50 luxury cars, two helicopters, a private jet and you possibly live in a $40 million house, you might be the person who can afford it because this costs seven times more than a Lamborghini Aventador. The actual price is $2 700 000 million and 200 of Chirons are already sold.

Bugatti has not stopped here but it’s continuing to develop the Chiron so that it can be very powerful. Though it is claimed it can reach 288 mph, Bugatti is refusing to give out the real speed it can reach possibly more than 300 mph!

GCR Nominee #2: Mercedes Benz X-class

Mercedes Benz has had some successes in South Africa with it’s models like the C-class and the E-class. But now that the bakkie market is increasing in demand and Mercedes Benz has come up with a bakkie to enter the market. It is called the X-class. Don’t be so quick to judge thinking that because it is a Mercedes Benz and it is luxurious, it will not be capable off road as a Ford Ranger. Don’t be so quick to judge the merc because don’t forget that their SUV models such as the G-class and the M-class have great off road capability. It’s funny that soon you will be seeing a Mercedes Benz pickup truck on the streets, it will be hilarious. 

I think it’s great that Mercedes Benz is exploring all options in expanding their brand. They make cars, panel vans, buses, trucks and now pickup trucks. Now all that’s left is motorbikes and they will get the right to say they can do anything. What’s next?  A range of aeroplanes? You never know.

Alright back to the X-class, production will start next year and it will be available with one petrol engine and three diesel engines. This includes four model trims:

  • X200: 4 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 164 hp (122 kW) 
  • X220d: 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 161 hp (120 kW) and 403 Nm of torque
  • X250d: 4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 188 HP (140 kW) and 450 Nm of torque
  • X350d: V6 turbocharged engine producing 255 bhp

There will be a selection of two transmissions: A 6-speed manual and a 7-speed automatic transmission. All model trims will have four-wheel drive.

According to Mercedes Benz, the new X-class will be the world’s first true “premium” pickup truck. For this model to be a true bakkie, Mercedes Benz has a joint venture with Renault-Nissan alliance to develop the top bakkie that will overthrow it’s competitors. Now that the bakkie market in South Africa will be welcoming the new X-class soon other bakkie manufacturers need to come up with strategies to make their bakkies even better.

It will have it’s own unique interior design and features that will keep it’s driver in a relaxed mood. This includes an 8.4 inch infotainment system which comes with Garmin-based Sat Nav. You can expect some leather upholstery and some of that intelligent merc features. Futher information concerning other figures are yet to be released by Mercedes Benz. The X-class comes with equipment that a bakkie should have like a canopy, a light that illuminates in the back, a plug for power tools and a tow bar. South Africans are mostly excited about the new X-class and we dearly do hope it is very good.

This might be a silly idea but I think Mercedes Benz should consider including an AMG model which should have a 4.0 litre twin turbocharged V8 with around 600 hp. It should be called the X63 AMG S. I know that it is insane but imagine having that in your garage, it will be very cool. Besides American pickup trucks have powerful model trims with V8 engines such as the Ford F150 Raptor V.

I think the Mercedes Benz X-class will fit just right in the bakkie market and because it is a Mercedes Benz it will sell very well, like very,very well. Prices are yet to be announced. The Best or nothing!
