Bottrop’s finest automotive tuner is back at it yet again with the Rocket 900 badge and this time the sleek Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4 Door Coupe has fallen victim. The numbers are showing a different side to this 4 door Coupe as the reworked engine and suspension have provided a 0-100 km/h sprint time that’s under 3 seconds. No wonder they are marketing this as a ‘Brabus Supercar’ as they have managed to squeeze out its high-performance potential that is comparable to conventional supercars, so it definitely is luring itself in that territory and that meant it had to be exclusive with only 10 units to be made.


Something different from the rest of the Rocket 900 crew is that this one doesn’t have 12-cylinder but rather cuts off four of them. Surprisingly enough, it manages to produce the same amount of power as the V12 latter. It went on with the same procedure of increment in the displacement from 4.0-litres to 4.5-litres, essentially adding two turbos on a V8 block. The result is 900 hp (662 kW) and a peak torque output of 1250 Nm but it has been limited to 1050 Nm, with all of it going to all four wheels via the 4Matic+ system. Let’s just say in conjunction with the Speedshift MCT 9-speed sports transmission, it manages to reach 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds. It can do 0-300 km/h in 23.9 seconds and it is limited to 330 km/h after that run, and this clearly shows that this can only be a beast of a car.

There is more that they did than just increasing displacement. To maximise the power output, the stroke was increased to 100 millimetres whilst the bore got increased as well to 84 millimetres. That made space for larger forged pistons which are ideal in correlating with the special billet piston rods and special balanced billet crankshaft. They added a stainless-steel high-performance quad exhaust system with free-flow metal catalyst which not only reduces back pressures but also produces a sweet exhaust note which you can silence with a push of a button if necessary. The final touches to the performance was to map the engine and optimize it for proper ignition timing and boost pressure control.


The biggest eye catcher on the outside are the weird looking wheels that seem to be inspired by those from the 1980’s. I think they look pretty sweet and match the cars overall look but what does not work is the rear spoiler and the extended fender flares which add on 7.8 centimetres to the overall width of the body. It just doesn’t work so well but understandably they wanted a raw, aggressive look that is more evident when you decide to stare at the front bumper spoiler which is there to reduce front-axle lift and improve the aerodynamics with the help of the rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

Back to the special wheels which are made by Brabus and are listed as Monoblock Z ‘Platinum Edition’ wheels with the front receiving them in 21-inch and the rear in 22-inch diameter size. They have been well wrapped in Pirelli P Zero high-performance tyres. The stance of this car is splendid as you’d notice the body is lower and that’s because the Brabus Airmatic Sport unit lowers the ride height by 25 millimetres in the two drive modes, ‘comfort’ and ‘sport’. The red accents on the wheels, badging and front grille complement the special Stealth Gray paintwork which then extends to the inside of the car.


You will notice that 215 bits and parts of the interior are coated to match the colour of the exterior. That is when the Gray colour is seen on the decorative stitching, perforations and the backing of the leather. By the way, royal black leather and Alcantara is used throughout the interior with the pattern on the seats matching the door panels. The stainless-steel scuff plates are backlit with the Brabus logo and it lights up with different colours in relation to the ambient lighting.

Everything looks ultra-luxurious and it should be because the GT 63 S Brabus Rocket 900 has a sticker price of €435 800 (R8 375 250) attached to it.
