If you think the G63 AMG is not wild enough for your taste, how about you take a nice detour to Brabus wonderland and peek at one of the most insane G-Class models ever made. The G65 AMG died along with the 12-cylinder engine and we thought that we would never see a day with the W463 G-Class (current generation model) bearing that large block but here we are in 2020 and it exists. The G V12 900 was revealed in September 2019 with only 10 units made and a thought came to mind that we should take a look back at this mega engineering achievement to take such a heavy, not so aerodynamic SUV and make it reach over 250 km/h.

Engine and Suspension

Brabus took it into authority to use the 6.0L V12 engine specifically from the S600 L and increased the displacement from 6.0 litres to 6.3 litres. So, this means that the engine produces 800 hp (662 kW) at 5 500 rpm and 1 500 Nm of torque but that is way too much for the wheels so they electronically reduced it to just 1 200 Nm made available at 4 200 rpm. It can do 0-100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 280 km/h. The question is, how did they manage to squeeze 358 hp (267 KW) from that engine because originally it had 530 hp (395 kW). This is the part where I get technical so pay close attention.

What they did was the same thing they did with the S650 Brabus 900 Rocket. First was to completely strip the engine down to its bare bone and bore each cylinder to increase the capacity. They fitted a Brabus crankshaft with a longer stroke because that allows the engine to produce more torque at low revs. This special alteration meant new matching forged pistons had to be fitted together with balanced billet connecting rods. The top-end required new spark plugs, camshafts, and fuel injectors that will work better at an intense rate.

They switched the standard two turbos for much larger ones that have higher compression along with modified exhaust manifolds. They further installed downpipe with a diameter of 80 mm, free-flow catalysts, and a stainless-steel exhaust system with active valves. In sport mode it will make a loud exhaust noise whilst in comfort mode, it will be a sensible noise that should not annoy the neighbours. The engine will produce a lot of heat at this stage so a new intake manifold and Gold Heat Reflection were put into place to deal with that. The ECU was mapped to allow the intake and exhaust process to be optimized for maximum engine performance.

The suspension has been set up to provide the best possible ride quality and that is where the Ride Control coilovers come in to dampen the comfort and iron out the bumps. It can be adjusted automatically through the Dynamic Select mode which changes the characteristics of the ride by also adjusting the powertrain, steering and driving assistance systems.

Exterior design

Such a powerful car demands a look that will make it stand out and be as distinct as possible from normal G-Wagons and the so-called brabus duplicates with the fake body kit on. The G V12 commands a stance look with a widened body that is accounted for by the fender flares that add 10 centimetres to the width of the body. That makes up for the large tyres with the front sized at 295/30 R 24 and the rears are 355/25 R 24, and they are wrapping some sweet 24-inch Monoblock “Platinum Edition” Z wheels.

The front fascia receives a larger air intake to suck in more air to cool that big V12 engine and for its size, it demanded a different hood to create more space, plus it has two hood scoops for additional cooling. The Brabus logo that is on the radiator grille illuminates at night and when you have the two ring LEDs on the headlights together with that lit logo makes it stand out at night time. Moving to the back and there is a naked Carbon Fibre rear wing, no spare wheel on the rear door and all chrome bits are blacked out.


The inside as well is touched but it differs a lot as there are various customization options to go for that will make each of these cars look very different. The one shown on these images’ sports porcelain and saddle brown leather for the seats, orange piping on the centre sections and the glove box lined in the same material and colour. The headliner is covered in Alcantara and the rear seating area have integrated analogue gauges to show the speed, outside temperature and time. The rear doors now open wider to allow passengers to hop in and out easily.

Brabus is always on the top of the game with releasing the sickest Mercedes Benz models that know no boundaries or limits. This might be the last of the Brabus V12 breed and it’s good that we say farewell to it in one of the most iconic body images.
